The area around the Grünauerhof and the entire Salzburg region offer a virtually inexhaustible reservoir of excursion destinations, oases of relaxation and sporting challenges: places and towns that set hearts racing with excitement, always inviting you to embark on new journeys of discovery. Fascinating views, compelling insights and always well-intentioned - this is the region that greets you.
Salzburg's imposing countryside
A tour of the glorious Salzkammergut is certain to be an unforgettable experience, with its deep-blue lakes nestled amid picturesque mountain scenery. The "Sound of Music", for example, and romantic ferry rides give eyes and ears a treat beyond compare. If you want to reach for new "heights", then the Untersbergbahn is just what you are looking for. Ride the gondola up to 1800 m above sea level and, on one of the many gloriously clear days, you will be able to enjoy your natural setting, a hearty regional meal and incredible panoramas.
There is so much to discover
Yet another highlight of the immediate region is the historic salt mine in Hallein. On the trail of the miners of old, you will head deep into the darkness of the mountain. In addition to many fascinating facts about the history of salt-mining in the region, you will also slither down a wooden slide into the murky depths below. At the open-air museum in Grossgmain, visitors can turn back the time clock for a few hours. Standing here are some 60 agricultural buildings and houses that document - and above all, keep alive - our country's last six centuries of farming and rural culture.
For Big & Small
Austria's biggest family fairy-tale and amusement park awaits you in the town of Strasswalchen, while Gut Aiderbichl sets the pulses of all animal-lovers racing in anticipation. You can explore ancient mine galleries or wander through dripstone caves, such as those of the World of Ice Giants. There are countless castles to be climbed up to, gorges to hike through and lakes to be swum in. One particularly popular attraction is the Königssee. This lake is not far away, in the neighboring Berchtesgadener Land, and enjoys an incomparably picturesque setting surrounded by imposing mountains - not the least of these being the Watzmann.
A relaxing end to the day
When, after all that sport and outdoor exercise, your arms and legs begin to feel a little heavy and you long for relaxation, the nearby RupertusTherme is definitely the place for you. It is essentially right at our doorstep: just a 15-minute drive from the Grünauerhof. It's a great place to de-stress and top up your personal energy reserves. Immerse yourself in the healthful Alpine saltwater and soak in those magnificent vistas.
